A mass fire broke out in a private cardboard manufacturing factory near Srperumbudur on Friday (April 18, 2025) in the morning, destroying machines and packaging materials. The flames were controlled after a three -hour fire extinguishing operation.

A senior Kancheepuram district police officer said the private cardboard manufacturing factory, called DGI Packaging, operated from Irungattukottai Sipcot near Srperumbudur. The company produces packaging materials with cardboard, which are then distributed to factories around Srperumbudur to pack products.

The fire exploded on Friday morning, where the manufactured cardinals were stored. In a few hours, it extended to the warehouse and other areas of the factory, where more than hundreds of people were committed to work.

A total of 10 fire tenders from the Srperumbudur and Irungattukottai stations, along with the fire services and rescue services, reached the scene. They fought the fire for more than three hours and put it under control.

The preliminary investigation of the Somangalam police discovered that the fire was caused by an electric short circuit in the factory.
