Minister inaugurates water collection structure maintenance works in Salem

The Minister of Tourism, R. Rajendran, on Sunday inaugurated the structure of water collection, works in the district under the Integrated Program for Water Water Collection Structures in Malliyakarai in Attur Taluk.

Mr. Rajendran told reporters that in a movement to rejuvenate the water collection structures, including control dams, ponds, filtration ponds, channels and currents created by the Tamil Nadu basin development agency, Working Works. This included eliminating bushes and vegetation. Up to 52 works would be carried out in 2025-26 in the Salem district under this program to ₹ 15.68 Lakh. This was expected to improve groundwater levels, increase water storage capacity at 31,000 cubic meters and benefit 300 farmers.

Around 200 works were carried out to ₹ 41.36 Lakhs from 2021-22, added the minister.

The minister said that under the scheme of special disappointment works of the Department of Water Resources, the waste of channels and bodies of water was occurring in ₹ 2.2 million rupees in the district. In the last four years, in the name of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, projects were implemented by ₹ 31.55 million rupees and in the name of the Department of Water Resources, works were carried out by value of ₹ 28.83 million rupees. These included a flood built to ₹ 3.80 million rupees in Kanavaikadu, 54 works under the special scheme of disappointment to ₹ 4.20 million rupees and barriers through the Saranaba River, Krishnapuram and Lathuvadi currents in ₹ 7 crore, Saint.
