Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (April 17, 2025) witnessed a significant milestone when the boring machine of the tunnel (TBM) was deployed for Mumbai Metro Line 7a, achieved a great advance. This is the first advance of the tunnel by the Development Authority of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMRDA) for an underground metropolitan project in Mumbai.
Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis inspected the “advance of the tunnel of the descending line” and reviewed the progress of the metropolitan line in the Vile Parle of Mumbai area. “The successful TBM completed the advance of the tunnel today, passing under the high roads on Metro line 3, crossing the main wastewater channels and water channels,” said Mr. Fadnavis.

The length of this metro line is 3.4 kilometers, or that 0.94 kilometers are high and 2.50 kilometers are underground. The tunnel diameter is 6.35 meters and the prefabricated rings of special design are used in the leg in six areas. This tunnel will be among the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Station and airport airport.
The advance is significant since it has found geological conditions and faced several challenges, including sharp gradients. “The advance of this tunnel was completed by overcoming several difficulties when crossing the main wastewater channels and water channels. With this subway line, Mumbaikars will be able to experience a comfortable trip from Colaba to Vasai Virar, Mira Bhayandar Mira,” said the statement of the Office of the Principal Minister.
Metro Line will provide connectivity to the International Airport from the Mira Bhayandar area (Metro 9) and the Western suburb (Metro 2a and Metro line), once operational.
