An uncomfortable calm prevailed in the areas of violence of Dhulian and Shamherganj in the District of Murshidabad of Western Bengal on Tuesday (April 15, 2025), without any new incident reported during the last three days. While some stores opened on the occasion of Pila Baisakh (Bengali New Year), public activity remained.
According to reports, many residents who fled their homes and shelters for the river in the adjoining cursus have not yet returned, despite the guarantees of the police administration.

Parliamentarians face public anger
Despite the relative calm in Murshidabad, public anger remained palpable in areas affected by violence such as Domkal and Jafrabad, and some residents demanded permanent deployment or central armed police forces (CAPF). After an intervention by the Superior Court of Calcutta, more than 20 CAPF companies have been deployed in the region.
Meanwhile, visiting political representatives faced public anger. The deputy of the Jangipur Trinamool Congress, Khalilur Rehman, faced angry questions from the locals, and some claim that the people who now appeal for peace were involved in violence.
In Malda, the people who took refuge in a relief field, according to the reports, raised slogans against the deputy of the southern Congress of Malda, Isha Khan Choudhury. There were also reports that Farakka Mla Manirul Islam had its residence in the area affected by violence or Dhulian to search outdoors in the shelter.

Trinamool MLA of Bharatpur, Humayun Kabir, questioned how violence in Dhulian happened despite the presence of three public representatives, including Mr. Rehman, in the area at that time.
The former Congress deputy Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, after meeting with affected families, recognized the demand for deployment of permanent central forces. He questioned the delay in the police response that attends the initial hours of violence, asking: “Who did not allow the police to act is a research issue.”
Meanwhile, the Secretary of State of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mohammad Salim, demanded a judicial investigation into violence in Murshidabad by a judge scenario of the Superior Court of Calcutta.
In the midst of the tensions that prevail in the State, the West Bengal Prime Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has summoned a meeting with magnets and Male on Wednesday to discuss the WAQF law (amendment), reiterating that the law will not be implemented in the State. In a related development, the Muslim Personal Law Board of All India (AIMPLB) announced the cancellation of a planned meeting on the fields of the Kolkata brigade parade scheduled for April 26.
