The president of Hurriyat and the chief cleric of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umarooq, on Friday (April 18, 2025) accused the authorities of deliberately rejecting him to lead congregation sentences in the historic Jama Himhid in Srinagar. “

“Every Friday, they feel under arbitrary house arrest. Pressing me so that it does not speak, the prohibition also aims to weaken the centrality of the Muslim institutions of the Valley, Jama Masjid, the Mirwaiz office, and cause the collective duel to the Muslims and all those who oppose this authoritarian and sectarian perspective,” said Mirwaiz, in a position in X.

He said his house detention was still pending in court. “I am looking for the relief of the Superior Court. At such moments, patience is still our only strength,” said Mirwaiz.

Mirwaiz’s political attire, the AWAMI Action Committee (AAC), was also prohibited by the Ministry of Interior (MHA). Lately, Mirwaiz said he has repeatedly denied permission to visit the Jama Masjid in Srinagar on Fridays, where he gives to sermons as a cleric. The Mirwaiz has also headed the agitation of the Anti-Waqf act (amendments) in J&K.

The J&K police are under Lieutenant Governor of J & K, Boodj Sinha, and has not issued any statement about the movement to restrict Mirwaiz’s movement.

The National Conference Decla (NC) made an exception to the move to ban the Mirwaiz of Friday’s sentences. “Preventing a religious leader from carrying out his religious obligations is deeply unfair. Genuine normality must extend to all without exception,” said North Carolina’s leader and legislator, Tanvir Sadiq.
