Ramos Sunday was observed with special prayers and processions in all the Churches of Touchi on Sunday.

Marking the beginning of the ‘Holy Week’, a large number of Christians participated in the procession. They marched to the Cathedral of Santa María in Melapudur.

This annual festival means the celebration of the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem, where the followers received it with palm branches, singing “Hosanna”. The festival, often known as ‘Passion Sunday’, marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final stage of the 40 -day Lent season, which concludes on Easter Sunday (April 20).

To mark this event, the devotees received palm leaves that were woven on a holy cross. Similar processions were tasks in various parts of the central districts. The majority of Reverend Dr. T. Sagayaraj, bishop or diocese of Thanjavur, directed the procession held in the cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Thanjavur. In Veankanni and Pondi, a large number of devotees take out the processions to mark the festival.
