There is the need for collective efforts to defend the values of the Renaissance, said Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Opening a public meeting in relation to the 54th State Conference of Kerala Pulayar Mahasabha (KPMS) in Alappuzha on Friday, Mr. Vijayan said that attempts were being made of several quarters to bring different forms of discriminations, including discrimination based on Castos. “Those who oppose social reforms must be resisted. Efforts are underway to revive various forms of discrimination. There are attempts to deceive the poor. We must raise our voice against this and oppose collectively.
Mr. Vijayan said Kerala is separated from other states. “There were other states that had stronger Renaissance movements than us, but social reforms did not take place there. In Kerala, however, significant changes occurred,” he said.
The Minister of Agriculture P. Prasad, the KPMs General, Punnala Sreekumar, and others attended.
