Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (April 13, 2025) paid tribute to the people killed in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919 and said that “the generations that come will always remember their indomitable spirit.”

Hundreds of people who peacefully protested against Rowlatt’s laws, who gave the colonial administration repressive powers, were killed by British forces without any provocation on this day in 1919 at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar.

“We recorded tribute to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. The next generations will always remember their indomitable spirit,” said Prime Minister Modi in an X publication.

“In fact, it was a dark chapter in the history of our nation. His sacrifice became a great turning point in the struggle for the freedom of India,” he said.
