Punjab Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa moves HC, seeks quashing of FIR registered against him

The main leader of the Congress, ParTap Singh Bajwa, on Tuesday (April 15, 2025) transferred the Superior Court of Punjab and Haryana, seeking to cancel a signed registered against them on their “50 pumps have reached Punjab”.

Mr. Bajwa, the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, had been reserved for charges, including the deceptive information that endangers the sovereignty and unity of the country after being questioned about their “50 bombs have reached Punjab”.

The lawyer of the Congress leader and the main lawyer APS Deol said that a petition has been presented to cancel the FIR and that it has been included on Wednesday (April 16).

Mr. Deol said that the charges against Mr. Bajwa had no basis.

Mr. Bajwa has been reserved under sections 197 (1) (d) (false and famous information that endangers the sovereignty and unity of the country) and 353 (2) (false statements with the intention of creating enmity and hate or sanhita (Bharatiya Nyaya).

The case was registered at the Cyber ​​Crime police station in Mohali.

In an interview with a private television channel, Mr. Bajwa had stated: “I have come to know that 50 bombs have reached Punjab. Of this, 18 have exploded, 32 have not yet shot each other.” A Punjab police team on Sunday (April 13) visited Mr. Bajwa’s residence and questioned the source of his statement.

Mr. Bajwa will appear before the police in Mohali on Tuesday (April 15) in relation to the signed registered against him.

In a publication about X, Mr. Bajwa said he will visit the cyber cell to give his statement at 2 pm

In a call issued to the Congress leader, the Police had asked Mr. Bajwa to appear before the Superintendent or Mohali Police on Monday (April 14) Noon in relation to the registration of a case against him.

Mr. Bajwa had expressed his inability to appear before the police on Monday, saying that he received the summons on Sunday night (April 13).

Several leaders of the Congress party have backed Mr. Bajwa, qualifying the case registration as “political sells.” The Punjab Congress will hold a protest on Tuesday (April 15) against the FIR registration against Mr. Bajwa.
