The Kerala government has given financial approval for the construction of the Nilambur Bypass road in the Malappuram district at an estimated cost of ₹ 227.18 million rupees, said Finance Minister Kn Balagopal on Wednesday.

The Bypass will be built in two phases, from Jyothippadi to Mukatta and Mukatta to Veliyamthode, said the minister in an official release.

For the project a total of 10.66 hectares of land in Nilambur Taluk will be acquired.

The work in the project, which was first notified in 1998, had been pending for a long time. The Environmental Impact Assessment Report for Land Acquisition was published in August 2023.

Nilambur bypass will help relieve Conction in the city of Nilambur and reduce traffic blocks on state highway 28, one of Kerala’s key state roads, said the minister.

This path is used by tourists traveling to Tamil Nadu and other destinations. Propose’s bypass will eliminate the long marine from tourist and commercial vehicles that are struck in Nilambur between Ooty and Gudalur, Balagopal added.

Notable, the Minister’s announcement comes ahead of the expected election in the Constitution of the Nilambur Assembly, which will probably be announced soon by the Electoral Commission. The partial selection has been necessary for the resignation of PV Anvar, who had the position with the support of the failure of the Democratic Front of the Left (LDF), but then changed from the side after the differences with Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
