The Supreme Court on Thursday (April 17, 2025) ordered the Western Bengala Government to initiate the recruitment process for teachers attending classes from nine to 12, saying that its decision is guided by a concern for students in their crucial and training academic years.

The Apex court, in a sentence on April 3, had confirmed the cancellation and cancellation of the block of a previous “contaminated” selection process. The judges had affected almost 24,000 appointments of teaching and not teaching in government and assistance schools throughout the State.

“There was a fixed bungling … Our concern is for the children,” he said on Thursday (April 17, 2025).

The court ordered that the announcement of the recruitment process for the assistant teachers of these four classes must be published on May 31, 2025 or before. The entire recruitment process must be completed before December 31, 2025.

The Bank ordered the education authorities of the state government and high school to present a sworn statement before May 31, enclosing the announcement and a calendar of the entire recruitment process until December 31.

The Court warned that “appropriate” orders would be approved if the State did not publish the announcement followed by the presentation of the affidavit.

By pointing out that the number of contaminated candidates in the previous selection process was “substantially high,” the bank said students should not suffer fraud.

Supreme Court on SSC recruitment in 2016

The recruitments, carried out in 2016 by the School Service Commission of Western Bengal (WBSSC), were linked to the recruitment of cash jobs for the “Scam” school. The SSC had celebrated the selection process in 2016 for assistant teachers for classes from nine to 12 and non -teaching staff.

On April 22 of last year, the Superior Court had ordered the invalidation of the 23,123 appointments with teaching and non -teaching staff, whether contaminated or not.

The Apex court had agreed with the discovery of the Superior Court that the selection process was vitiated and plagued by manipulations and fraud. Attempts were made to cover up the fraud that has only further undressed its credibility and legitimacy of the selection process.

The president of the Supreme Court Khanna, author of the sentence, had declared that the entire selection process was null and null for candidates who were not specifically contaminated. The Apex court said that atrocious violations and illegalities found in the selection process violated article 14 (right to equality) and article 16 (right to equal opportunities in public employment) of the Constitution.

The Western Bengal State had approached the Apex court that claimed that the Superior Court had erroneously acted when canceling all appointments without segregating and examining the merits of each individual recruitment.

The State had argued that the sudden termination of the teaching and non -teaching staff of 23,123 had put school education in a dilemma. The education system itself had threatened to stop virtual.
