The State Education Policy Commission (SEP), headed by Sukhadeo Thorat, has requested the Department of Higher Education of another extension to submit its final report. The department has sent the application to Prime Minister Siddaramaiah.

The commission declared that the report was ready, but the translation to Kannada was happening and needed at least another month.

“In the application, the commission has sought time until the end of May. The decision will be taken by the principal minister. We have sent the application,” said MC Sudhakar, Minister of Higher Education.

However, the sources in the department revealed that the minister was not interested in extending the time again because the commission had no longer fulfilled two deadlines to present the final report.

Previously, the commission had announced that the SEP report would be presented to the Government at the end of February 2024. Later, it was pushed at the end of April. However, the Commission presented a provisional report to the Government in May 2024 and said the final report would be presented in August.

Meanwhile, the Commission, which also did not comply with this deadline, submitted a request to the Government in September 2024 looking for six additional months. The government, which accepted this request, had given time until February 2025 to submit the report.

“If the commission does not meet the deadline even more, we will make decisions in the interest of the students,” said the minister.

According to his manifesto in the elections of the State Assembly of 2023, Congress, after coming to power, had decided to withdraw the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) and constitute a separate SEP Commission on October 12, 2023.
