Jharkhand’s prime minister, Hemant Soren, was appointed on Tuesday the central president of Jarkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) by his father and founder of the party, Shibu Soren.
Mr. Shibu Soren, who held the position for 38 years, will now be the founder-patron of the party.
The formal announcement was the final day of the 13th central convention of the JMM in Khelgaon in Ranchi. Mr. Hemant and Gandey Mla Kalpana Soren were among those present.
Earlier on Monday, the party made an amendment to its constitution to abolish the position of president who works, hero by Jharkhand’s main minister for 10 years.
Mr. Hemant received the responsibility of the president who works in the JMM at the 2015 Jameshedpur central convention.
Founded in 1972
The JMM, formed in 1972 under the leadership of Mr. Shibibo Soren, had first launched a campaign against lenders. Due to his hard work, people began to call him ‘Dishom Guru’.
The initial JMM fought for tribal rights, the protection of the resources of the Land of Water and the regional identity of Jharkhand. He led the party for a long time and turned it into an important political force in the tribal state.
Later, due to its advancement of age and health reasons, Mr. Hemant became the president who works. Under Mr. Hemant’s leadership, the party won two elections to the Assembly in 2019 and 2024. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the alliance led by JMM composed of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 47 seats of the 81 seats, defeat the BJP. Of. De. De. De.
In the 2024 elections, the Indian group led by JMM won 56 of 81 seats, the best performance of the party so far in any election of the Assembly.
“This change will further strengthen the legacy of the JMM. My father established the party as a regional movement, and now it is my responsibility to bring it to the national level,” said Hemant.
ED action
Duration of his mandate as the main minister, the legal action also faced when he was arrested on January 31, 2024 by the Compliance Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case relationship with a land scam, which forced him to resign.
Later, the leader of JMM Champai Soren, who is now with the BJP, assumed the position of Prime Minister for some time. Shortly after his prison release after almost five months, Mr. Hemant returned to win the assembly elections.

Jharkhand BJP state spokesman, Pratul Sahdev Tok, an excavation in the JMM Convention claiming that instead of Jharkhand’s well -being, only family welfare was implemented at the meeting.
“The BJP said for a long time that the next president of JMM will also be from the Soren family and that is what happened. The prime minister had a much better opportunity to make any senior worker dedicated to his party the president. Sahdev said.
“This is what happens in family -oriented parties when family members are appointed for all important positions, including the president. Common workers are only called to raise their hands,” he added.
