Tamil Nadu Prime Minister MK Stalin, on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) presented two bills at the Legislative Assembly that seeks to nominate people with disabilities to local organizations.
In February, he said that the state government would introduce legislation to guarantee the representation of people with disabilities in local agencies. A bill introduced in the name of the municipal administration department sought to give effect to the decision of the state government to nominate people with disabilities to all the city panchats, the municipal councils and the municipal corporations by amending the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998 (Tamil Nadu Act 9 or 1999), adequate.
Another bill presented on behalf of the Rural Development Department sought to give effect to the government’s decision to nominate a person with disabilities to all the village Panchayats, the advice of the Panchayat Union and the Panchayats of the District by amending the law of Tamil Nadu Panchayats, 1994 (Act of Tamil Nadu 21 of 1994), properly.
Before presenting the bills, Mr. Stalin said that at present, of the elected representatives, there were only 35 PWDs in urban local organizations. “Once the bills are promulgated, approximately 650 people with different capacities in urban local bodies, 12,913 people with different capacities in the village Panchats, 388 people with different abilities in Panchayat Unions, 37 people with different capacities in the district panchayats will be designated. Their voices are heard in local governance.
“In the budget for 2025-26, we have announced that a suitable bill will be approved in the current assembly session to guarantee adequate representation for people with disabilities in all types of local government agencies in the state, this presentation of a wallet. Mr. Stalin said.
These bills will pave the way for the representation of PWD in local agencies and will allow them to obtain equal opportunities and special rights. This is another step in our objective of social justice or “everything for everyone,” he said.
Mr. Stalin recalled that former Prime Minister Karunanidhi had given him the opportunity to introduce the bill in the Legislative Assembly to provide an internal reserve of 3% for Arunthathatiyars. “Now I am with the same level of satisfaction that I had when I presented the draft reserve law of Arunthathathiyars,” Stalin said.
He said that before the DMK came to power, the allocation for the well -being of the PWD was ₹ 667 million rupees. “In the current prosecutor, the allocation is ₹ 1,432 million rupees, so we have doubled the allocation,” Stalin said.
“We have bone that comes out with schemes for well -being or people with abilities differently not only for compassionate reasons, but also based on their rights. In India, Tamil Nadu provides monthly assistance to the highest or highest or different number.”
Through the 4% reserve for PWDs, 1,493 people have government jobs in the last four years, Stalin said, while lists measures or well -being measures for the community.
