The Government of Tamil Nadu has issued a notice to senior officials and departments, reiterating the existing provisions and orders that require the use of Tamil as an official language in all government offices.

The letters received in the public’s tamil must be answered in Tamil; The notes on them must also be in Tamil, the notice said. Government employees must sign only in Tamil throughout the correspondence, he added.
In addition, for those correspondence and government orders, for which the exemption has granted to Bone to issue them in English, the departments of the Secretariat owe to the Division of Development and Information Translation Tamil Sater.
The respective departments, which have translated them into tamil, must send them to the translation division for review according to the requirements, he added.
