Despite the afternoon heat with temperatures that touched 37 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad, thousands of people met in the Ambedkar Statue of 125 feet NTR Gardens on Monday (April 14, 2025) to commemorate the 135th anniversary of Dr. Br Ambedkar. The blue flags fluttered in the air like channels of Jai Bhim I spoke in the area, turning the occasion into a vibrant celebration of Ambedkar’s legacy.

What made Ambedkar Jayanti of this year memorable for many was the strange opening of the commemorative location of the imposing 125 feet statue. The site, which has been largely inaccessible to the public for a consequent time, attracted enthusiastic crowds eager to enter. The visitors were seen taking photos and videos against the imposing backdrop, while many others rest on the grass caps within the facilities, enjoying the moment.

A long tail had formed at the entrance of the monument early in the afternoon. “There are already many people inside and the police will let us use only after a little license,” said Shyam Kumar, a bihar migrant worker, who hoped patiently along with his wife and daughter.

Within the monument, the visitors were received with an exhibition of file photographs from Dr. Ambedkar, which caught the attention. Groups of people continued singing Jai Bhim Just inside the closed space, adding to the loaded atmosphere. Several art facilities inspired by the Constitution of India created by university students were also exhibited, further enriching the experience.

A surprising prominent point among photo screens was a photograph of the honorary doctorate awarded to Br Ambedkar by the University of Osmania in 1953.

For Sai Charan, a 38 -year -old resident or Banjara Hills, was a trip through the memory lane. “The last time I visited the monument was two years ago, a duration of a performance of the Indian Navy band. At that time, there was no crowd, and I got a rhythm to see the monument inside,” he said. This time, he brought his university son to take a look or Ambedkar’s life and contributions. “I hope the government maintains the regularly open monument. More people should have the opportunity to witness this space,” he added.
