Three children drowned until death in the village of M. Rachapalli of Chitvel Mandal in the district of Annamayya during the celebration ‘Sri Rama Navami’ on Friday night.

The Rajampeta Subdivision Police said that while the village residents were occupied with a procession of the temple in relation to the sri branch navami festivities, the children, all wielded, diverted near a pond at the last minute of the night. After venturing into the water, the trio drowned, the police added.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased believed that the children were in the temple and had returned home around midnight. However, after realizing that the children were missing, the locals launched a search. The Police and Temple management tried to track children through a public address system, but in vain.

With the help of the lanterns, the search continued until the location of the pond, where the bodies of the three were found in a corner. The victims were identified as Devansh, Vijay and Yashwant. The doctors of the Pullampeta Government Hospital declared them dead. After autopsy, the bodies were delivered to the families on Saturday.

The leaders of the Senior of Desam (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) visited the village and comforted family members. Police recorded a case. Inspector Circle (CI) Venkateswarulu urged parents to be cautious while allowing their children to venture near the bodies of water and the wells last the holidays.
