Trees Uprooted, Roads Blocked In Shimla As Storm Hits Himachal Pradesh, IMD Issues Orange Alert

Himachal Celimo: The yellow and orange alert has been in its place for several districts throughout the state, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti.

Shimla de Himachal Pradesh was beaten by a massive storm on Wednesday night. Several trees were uprooted when heavy rains whipped the city, with the Department of Meteorology of India (IMD) predicting more downpour in the next few days.

The department with the department has also issued an orange alert for Shimla. A western disturbance will remain active in the region for the next four days.

Videos shared online showed uprooted trees that lead to road blockages. Binod, an employee of the Municipal Corporation, said the vehicular movement is blocked due to the storm.

IMD predicts strong rains for these areas

The IMD has predicted strong rains, hail storms and strong winds that reach speeds or 40 to 50 km/h in the isolated districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti on April 18 and 19.

He also warned residents to remain alert and take the necessary precautions.

“The precipitation of light to moderate in many places with a few moderate to intense spells is very likely in the districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and in the ups and downs of the districts of Chamba and Kullu duration of April 18,” he said.

Orange and yellow alerts instead for thesis districts

The IMD issued an orange alert for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla for April 18 to 20. Meanwhile, there is also a yellow alert for the districts of one, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti from April 18 to 20.
