The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has become “frustrated” with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zenskyy, said the White House on Monday (May 19, 2025) before separate calls, Mr. Trump is a hope of progressing towards a high fire in the war in Ukraine.

Trump expressed his hopes of a “productive day” on Monday (May 19, 2025), and a high fire, in a publication on social networks about the weekend. Your effort will also include calls to NATO leaders. But before the call, Vice President JD Vance said Trump is “more than open” to get away from trying to end the war if he feels that Mr. Putin does not take the negotiation seriously.

The call was running shortly after 10 am, said press secretary Karoline Leavitt, promising additional details after he concludes. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the “important conversation, given the conversations of that Tok place in Istanbul” last week between Russian and Ukrainian officials, the first negotiations of this type since March 2022.

Trump has struggled to end a war that with the invasion of Russia in February 2022, and that makes the conversations serious proof of his reputation as a merchant after having affirmed that he would quickly solve the conflict once the conflict once returned.

“He has tired and frustrated both sides of the conflict,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, to journalists on Monday (May 19, 2025) before the call. “It has made clear on both sides that chickens to see a peaceful resolution and the high fire as soon as possible.”

The Republican president is depositing in the idea that his personality and personal history force with Mr. Putin will be enough to break any dead point on a pause in the fight.

“I would say that we are more than open to get away,” Vance told journalists before leaving Rome after meeting with Pope Leo XIV. Vance said Mr. Trump has been clear that the United States “will not turn his wheels here. We want to see the results.”

Trump’s “sensations are that he has to put himself on the phone with President Putin, and that will clarify part of the Logjam and take us to the place we need to get,” said Mr. Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff. “I think it will be a very successful call.”

Even so, Mr. Trump is feared to have an affinity for Mr. Putin that could put Ukraine at a disadvantage with any agreement designed by the United States government.

Bridget Brid said he resigned last month as an American ambassador to Ukraine “because politics from the beginning of the administration was to press the victim Ukraine, instead of the aggressor, Russia.”

Mrs. Brink said that the sign that she needed to leave was an oval office meeting in February, where Trump and her team openly rebuked Mr. Zenskyy for not being sufficiently deferred for them.

“I think peace at any price is not peace at all,” Brink said. “It is the appeasement, and as we know for history, the appeasement only leads to more war.”

Mr. Trump’s frustration on war had been built before his position on Saturday (May 17, 2025) in Truth Social about the next calls.

Trump said his discussion with Putin would focus on stopping the “blood bath” of war. It will also cover trade, a sign that Trump could be seeking to use financial incentives to negotiate some kind of agreement after Russia’s invasion led severe sanctions from the United States and its allies that have constantly eroded Moscow’s ability to grow.

Trump’s hope, according to the position, is that “a war that should never have happened will end.”

Mr. Vance said Trump would press Mr. Putin about whether the negotiation of the conflict was taken seriously, saying that Trump does not believe it is, and that Trump can wash his hands to try to end the war.

“Two are needed for tango,” Vance said, adding that “if Russia is not willing to do that, then we have this to say that this is not ours. It is Joe Biden’s war; it is Vladimir Putin’s war.”

His treasure secretary, Scott Besent, said Sunday (May 18, 2025) about “Know the press” of NBC Trump had made it clear that Mr. Putin of Mr. Putin to negotiate “in good faith” could lead to additional sanctions against Russia.

Mr. Besent suggested that the sanctions that were the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden were inadequate because they did not stop Russian oil revenues, due to the concerns that doing so would increase the prices of the United States. The United States sought to limit Russian oil revenues while preserving oil exports in the country to limit inflation damage that war produced.

Mr. Putin recently rejected a offer from Mr. Zenskyy to meet in Person in Turkiye as an alternative to a high fire fired by Ukraine and his Western allies, including Washington.

Those conversations ended on Friday (May 16, 2025) after less than two hours, without a high fire in place. Even so, both countries pledged to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, with the Chief of Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, saying that on Saturday of Ukrainian television (May 17, 2025) it could happen as soon as this week.

While ending his four -day trip to Middle East, Trump said on Friday (May 16, 2025) that Putin had not gone to Turkiye because Mr. Trump himself was there.

“He and I will meet, and I think we will solve it or maybe not,” Trump told reporters after addressing Air Force One. “We will know at least. And if we don’t resolve it, it will be very interesting.”

Mr. Zenskyy with Mr. Trump’s vice president, JD, Mr. Vance, and Top Diplomat, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Rome on Sunday (May 18, 2025), as well as European leaders, intense their efforts before Monday calls (May 19, 2025).

The Ukrainian president said at the social media site X that he speaks with US officials who discussed negotiations in Turkiye and that “the Russians sent a low level of non -decision delegation.” Hi, he also said that Ukraine is dedicated to “real diplomacy” to have a high fire.

“We have also mentioned the need for sanctions against Russia, bilateral trade, defense cooperation, situation on the battlefield and the next prison exchange,” Zenskyy said. “Pressure against Russia is needed until they are eager to stop war.”

The German Government said that Friedrich Merz Chancellor and French, British and Italian leaders spoke with Trump Sunday night (May 18, 2025) about the situation in Ukraine and his next call with Mr. Putin. A letter statement did not give details of the conversation, but said the plan is that the exchange continues directly after Trump-Poutin’s call.

In an X publication about the conversation, the French president, Emmanuel Macron, said Mr. Putin on Monday (May 19, 2025) “Hey Paz must show by accepting the unconditional proposal of 30 days by President Trump and backed by Ukraine and Europe.”

The impulse occurred when the Kremlin launched its largest flood of drones against Ukraine since the beginning of the large -scale invasion in 2022, firing a total of 273 explosive drones and lures, the Ukraine Air Force on Sunday (May 18, 2025). The attacks attacked the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk regions of the country.

Mr. Witkoff spoke on Sunday (May 18, 2025) in “This week” of ABC And Brink appeared in CBS “” Faces the nation. “
