Twelve more people were arrested in relation to the violent protests on the WAQF (amendment) law in the Murshidabad district of Western Bengala, where three people died, police said on Sunday (April 13, 2025).
A new violence incident was not reported from anywhere in the Muslim majority district, with security forces maintaining nearby vigil, they said.
“The situation in the areas of Suti, Dhulian, Samserganj and jangipur of the district is peaceful. The raids continued during the night, and 12 more people were arrested. With this, 150 people have arrested so far,” said a senior police officer.
Prohibition orders have been imposed under section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in the areas of violence, and the Internet has been, he said.
The security forces are checking vehicles on the main roads and patrolling the sensitive pockets, he added.
“An investigation is underway in violence incidents. It is likely to be more trial,” said the officer.

Several vehicles, including police trucks, were set on fire, stones were thrown into the security forces and roads were blocked when violence shook several parts of the state, partly Murshidabad, lasting protests in the new legislation on Friday. Some shoots were also reported on Saturday.
In the midst of violence, the bodies of a man and his son were found with multiple white wounds in his house in Jafrabad in Samserggeranj on Saturday. They were identified as Harogobindo Das and Chandan Das, according to the police.
A 21 -year -old man, identified as Ijaz Momin, died on Saturday after receiving the duration of the bullet wounds in Sajur in Suti on Friday, they said.
At least 18 police officers were tried in violence on Friday.
The DGP Rajev Kumar, who arrived at Samsergerj on Saturday night, held a meeting with superior officers and stocks of the situation.
