Update of the Supreme Court of the WAQF amendment law: live updates: The Supreme Court will continue to listen to requests that challenge the constitutional validity of the WAQF (amendment) law, 2025, Thursday. The bill was approved by Lok Sabha on April 3, and was authorized by Rajya Sabha a day later. The controversial bill subsequently received the presidential assent on April 5. However, a massive controversy broke out on the bill with several political parties that oppose their promulgation. Around 70 requests have been listed before the Superior Court for consideration today.
A bank of three judges headed by the president of the Supreme Court of India, Sanjiv Khanna, and who includes Judges PV Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan are presiding over the matter. The high -level defenders Kapil Sibal, AM Singhvi and Rakesh Dwivedi are affected by the petitioners, while the General Tushar Mehta soloor represents the central government.
The law was approved in Parliament after an intense debate. In Rajya Sabha, it was approved with 128 votes in favor and 95 against, while the Lok Sabha approved it with 288 members who support the bill.
They are attentive to obtain more updates, since the Supreme Court will resume the procedures today on the requests that will question the constitutional validity of the law.
