Waqf Board Claims Entire Tamil Nadu Village As Its Property, Issues Eviction Notices

The WAQF Board of Tamil Nadu has issued eviction notices to about 150 families in the Kattukollai village, claiming that the entire land of the village falls under its authority, causing protests from the villagers.

Several families of the town, located in the district of Velore, have launched protests, stating that they have lived in the area for three generations.

They have also presented a request to the collector of the district of Velore, requesting an investigation on the matter.

Talking to the news agency ANIA villager said: “Our land is registered, we have paid the water tax, but now we have appealed a notice that says that the Earth is a WAQF property. 200 families have received this notice.”

Praveen Kumar, a local Hindu Munnani official in Velore, said: “Kattukollai’s village in Anaikattu Bajo Iraivankadu Panchayat, around 150 villagers, received a notice of Syed Ali Masjid in Villn advance in Have. Kattukollai for 4 generations. By Jamaat intervention.”

The local head of the Mosque, known as Mutawalli, the official responsible for administering the WAQF properties, said that the villagers were already aware that the land belongs to the WAQF Board. In addition, he declared that the official records of 1954 identify the land as WAQF property.
