The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has urged to guarantee the protection of the tomb of Aurengzebs in Shambhaji Nagar. This comes after row on the headlines dominated by the tomb of Aurengzebs for almost the entire month.

He also stressed that international law imposes the obligation to “safeguard and conserve cultural heritage for the benefit of present and future generations.” The letter cited the signing of the India of the UNESCO Convention on the protection of world cultural and natural heritage, 1972, added: “Any act of destruction, negligence or illegal alteration of such Monters was found with a violation of international obligations.”

He urged the office of the UN Secretary General to be aware of the matter and direct the central government and thus guarantee that the aungzeb tomb has “full legal protection, security and preservation in accordance with national and international laws.”
