A team of doctors from Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital by Kle Society performed rare surgery in a woman with Moyamoya’s disease and saved her life. It was the first time that the procedure was carried out at the hospital.
The team included the superior neurosurgeon Abhishek Patil, the Neuro-Anena Desii, Dr. Aditya and the Nursing staff.
The 40 -year -old has recovered completely. After surgery, he started eating food and walking inside six hours and went home after three days, said a statement.
“Moyamoya’s disease in an adult is very rare and causes the complete obliteration of the internal carotid artery that includes one of the main blood supplies to the brain. Surgically, we have to create a new way of blood to the brain, direct or indirect, from the external carotide system, which needs detailed planning and precision skills,” said Dr. Patil.
Moyamoya’s disease is a very strange cerebrovascular condition initially described in the 1960s in Japan and in 1983 in India. The word Moyamoya that means “smoke snack” in Japanese, was used to describe the abnormal appearance of brain vessels in angioograms. This condition leads to the complete occlusion of internal carotid arteries results in recurrent, hemorrh, seizures and cognitive deterioration.
