A group of 40 taxi drivers for women’s bicycles presented a petition to the Minister of Transportation of Karnataka, Reddy Reddy, urging the Government to reconsider the state prohibition of bicycle taxi services.

The petition follows a directive of the Superior Court of Karnataka on April 2, ordering the cessation of all bicycle taxis operations. The Superior Court of Karnataka directed Rapido, Ola and Uber to stop operating its bike taxi services within six weeks.

The Court clarified that unless the state government notifies the relevant guidelines under section 93 of the Motorized Vehicle Law, 1988, and the relevant rules framed under this provision, fast, OLA and UBER cannot function as bicycle taxi aggregators.
