Work to establish a four-lane bypass between the villages of Tajpura and Veppur in Arcot-Villupuram High Road to the most thawed Arcot city is Saturday.

State officials of Highways said that the Bypass aims to provide an alternative route for long-term travelers and heavy vehicles to reach the Chennai-Bengaluru road at Veppur Village much faster.

“The ambulances are difficult for them to navigate narrow sections in the city of Arcot, since trucks also use roads to reach the road. The new bypass will relieve traffic in the city,” said B. Vinod, a motorist.

It will also facilitate motorists to arrive at the Taluk government hospital in Walajah, the new Christian Medical College and Bharat Heavy Electrics Ltd. camp in Ranipet, and key cities such as Melvisharam and Velore ignoring the city of Arcot congested.

The Minister of Tlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi placed the stone of the base. Ju Chandrakala, collector; R. Krishnaswamy, Superintendent Engineer, state roads (Tiruvannamalai); and S. Selvakumar, division engineer, state highways (Ranipet) were present.

Financed under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Program 2024-25, the work of 35 million rupees includes a running 10 meters wide, medium of 1.2 meters wide and trails.

“According to estimates, more than 9000 vehicles pass through Arcot Town to go to the Chennai and Bengaluru industrial corridors. The work will be complete in 18 months,” said T. Murugan, an executive assistant of highways

Highways officials said the section would connect three key sections, including KrishNagi-Ranipet High Road and Arcot-Kannamangelam High Road.
