The Dwarka Highway, also known as the 248-BB National Highway, was planned to facilitate travel faster and Smouther between Delhi and Gurugram. This high-speed 8 lanes highway covers more than 34.10 km, providing an alternative to the Delhi-Gurgaon highway already present. It is a road controlled road with a route alignment that connects Maivingalpur (Shiv Murti) in Delhi with Kherki Dhaula through New Gurgaon (Gurugram) in Haryana.
Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18.9 km section of the Dwarka Highway (in Haryana), on March 11, 2024. The remaining part of the highway that falls in Delhi is still under construction and confrontation of delays. However, it was estimated that the entire project was completed until December 2024, but some areas were still underdeveloped when writing this blog. And the dates can be extended a little more.
All development is divided into five packages. In particular, packages 3 and 4 are found in Haryana and are in operation. However, the three packages that go back, called 1, 2 and 5 are under construction or expect approvals or face delays due to complications of reforms. Package 1: From the IGI and Shiv Murti airport in Mahimalpur to Bijwasan Road Undridge (RUB)
Package 1 of the Dwarka Expressway project covers a 5.90 kilometers stretch, which begins near the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and the prominent Shiv Murti in Mahimalpur, which extends to Bijwasan Road (Rub). This segment is being developed by J Kumar Infroprojects. A significant feature of this section is a depth tunnel of 3.6 kilometers that runs under the airport track, designed to facilitate the flow of uninterrupted traffic and improve connectivity between southern Delhi and western Delhi. In particular, this section will be integrated into the next Urban Extension Road II highway (Uer II) in the west of Delhi and will serve as the western terminal of the next Rangpuri bypass, linking it to Vasant Kunj in Nelson Mandela Marg.
Package 2: From Bijwasan Rub to Delhi-Arryana Border
4.2 kilometers, package 2 extends from the subsidy of Bijwasan Road to the Delhi-Haryana border. Package 5: Airport connectivity from Dwarka Expressway – Tunnel to Terminal 3
Package 5 is a dedicated initiative aimed at improving airport connectivity by building a 5 kilometers and four lanes tunnel from the Dwarka highway directly to terminal 3 (T3) of the IGI airport. This tunnel is designed to provide travelers from areas such as Vasant Kunj and Munirka with direct and direct access to the airport, which meant significantly reducing travel time. From the last updates, the contractor of this package has not ordered, and the tender notice is pending.

The Dwarka Highway is a crucial infrastructure project that promises to relieve congestion and improve connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram. While the Haryana section is completely operational, the reminiscent stretching in Delhi are still under development. With continuous construction, approach and rehabilitation processes, delays are inevitable.
