“Everything in life deserves a jhatka or a tadka, at regular intervals,” the actor captioned her workout video
Shilpa Shetty Kundra is a wellness crusader and, as such, regularly shares inspirational workouts, yoga, and healthy food recipe videos on Instagram. In a similar vein, the actor recently shared a glimpse of her belly dance workout routine, which was a great example of mixing exercising with fun.
She added that her belly dance routine helps strengthen the core inside out. “Our core consists of the pelvic, lower back, glute, and abdominal muscles. This belly dance move trains the core for strength and shape,” she continued.
How to do Shilpa Shetty’s belly dancing move at home
Sharing details, the 47-year-old wrote, “Keeping one leg straight with the foot flat on the floor, raise the heel of the other leg as high without bending at the knee. Then draw an outward circle with your hip. Repeat on the other side and work alternately (Imagine drawing the infinity sign). Once you master this move, you can perform a mix of slow and fast movements to challenge your core. Belly dance also helps in learning how to control the core and works on the deeper abdominal muscles”.
“Different from the usual, isn’t it?” she concluded.
Is belly dancing an effective form of exercise?
Yoga expert Mansi Gulati said that belly dancing is one of the world’s oldest forms of exercise. “It is a discipline created by women, for women. It has gradually evolved over thousands of years to tone the woman’s body from the inside out,” she told indianexpress.com.
What is the belly dance move performed by Shilpa?
The belly dance move performed by Shilpa is snake arms belly dancing, and offers many health benefits. “The fast movements, primarily the hip and shoulder shimmies, offer cardiovascular benefits and make you break a sweat. The entire body is strengthened by using movements with one hip, while keeping the weight on one leg. Lifting the arms for ‘snake arms’ strengthens them, and many of the torso movements make the stomach strong as well as flexible,” shared Gulati.
Health benefits for belly dancing
Gulati listed some of them as follow:
Helps correct the posture and relieve back pain. When done with the correct posture, belly dancing stretches and releases tension in the back and strengthens the muscles. As such, a belly dance student who practices regularly is less likely to develop back problems.
Reduce stress. Belly dancing relaxes the mind as well as the body since it calls for relaxation and focus, like meditation in motion. The concentration on relaxing and isolating individual parts of the body, while losing yourself in hypnotic Middle Eastern music, has both mental and physical benefits, and these — along with the spiritual aspects of our being — are intertwined.
Weight control. Belly dancing also helps in burning calories and managing your weight.
Self-Image. Belly dancing can help you with self-image issues by providing health benefits and equipping you with a performative art form.
