In Saturday’s Group B match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, England opener Ben Duckett shattered a 21-year-old ICC Champions Trophy record with a commanding 165 against Australia. Ben Duckett brought up his third ODI century and second against Australia after being sent into bat first and hammering the Australian spinners all around the field.

Ben Duckett smashed Nathan Astle’s two-decade-old record while he was in the middle, facing 143 deliveries and hitting 17 fours and three sixes on his way to the best individual score by a batter in the tournament’s history.

In 2004, Nathan Astle got 145 runs without being out against the USA. Ben Duckett’s 165 was actually the first time in the tournament’s history that a player scored 150 or more runs in an innings. As England scored a massive 351/8, he was finally removed by Marnus Labuschagne in the 48th over.

Highest Individual Score in Champions Trophy History

Batter Total Opposition (Year)
Ben Duckett 165 Australia (2025)
Nathan Astle 145* USA (2004)
Andy Flower 145 India (2002)
Sourav Ganguly 141 South Africa (2000)
Sachin Tendulkar 141 Australia (1998)

In addition, England’s 351/8 was the highest team total in the tournament’s history. When the Kiwis defeated the USA at The Oval in 2004, they scored 347/4, setting the previous record.

Ben Dwarshius dismissed Jamie Smith and Phil Salt during the powerplay, putting England on the defensive after they were sent into bat first. Ben Duckett then scored 158 runs for the third wicket with Joe Root at his side.
