News from Tamil Nadu: After 25 years, actor-politician Gautami Tadimalla severed her connection with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Monday. Tadimalla posted her letter of resignation on the microblogging platform “X,” tagging Annamalai, the chairman of the Tamil Nadu BJP, and JP Nadda, the national president of the BJP.
Tadimalla’s exit is probably going to be seen as the BJP’s second major setback in the southern stronghold, where the saffron party has completely lost ground and is now trying to reclaim it through Tamil Nadu, which is presently led by MK Stalin of the DMK.
The AIADMK’s decision to leave the coalition between the two parties earlier this month, citing Annamalai’s remarks denigrating former chief minister Annadurai and Jayalalitha, dealt another serious blow to the saffron party in Tamil Nadu.
For what reasons did Tadimalla submit his resignation?
Despite assurances, the BJP “rescinded” her Rajapalayam ticket.
In her letter of resignation, Tadimalla stated that she had chosen to remain with the BJP in spite of the party’s “rescinding” at the last minute its promise to provide her a ticket for the state’s 2021 Assembly elections.
Gautami added that she was given the responsibility of leading the Rajapalayam constituency in the 2021 elections and that she would be fielded from there. After that, she committed herself to fortifying the party at the local level.
“But at the last minute, this pledge to contest was withdrawn. In any case, I stayed loyal to the party,” she stated, lamenting the lack of support even after 25 years of dedication to the group.
The BJP “enabled” the guy who stole her money.
Additionally, according to Tadimalla, a certain C Alagappan “has swindled me of my money, property, and documents.”
“….not only do I not have any support from the party and leaders, but it has also come to my knowledge that several amongst them have been actively helping and supporting the very person who has betrayed my trust and cheated me of my life earnings,” she stated in the lengthy statement. “I am at the point where my daughter and I should have been settled, safe and secure, and yet I found to my horror that Mr. C Alagappan has swindled me of my money, property and documents,” Tadimalla stated, recounting the incident with Alagappan. About twenty years ago, Alagappan approached me because he saw my weakness and loneliness as a single mother raising a small child and an orphan who had recently lost both of my parents. He pretended to be a kind elderly person when he introduced himself and his family into my life. It was in this situation around 20 years ago that I entrusted him with the sale and documents of several of my lands, and it was just recently that I discovered he had defrauded me of the same; all while pretending to welcome me and my daughter as a part of his family.”
Extending upon the second reason, Tadimalla stated in her letter of resignation that she had reported the cheating to the police and that she still believed Chief Minister M K Stalin and the legal system would see to it that she was treated fairly.
Tadimalla continued, “Senior BJP members have been aiding Mr. Alagappan in evading justice and fleeing for the past 40 days, even after the FIRS have been filed.”
