In the world of television and video, There is a language that all devices must understand to communicate: codecs. These are as translators that allow your TV, your mobile phone or your computer to interpret the video and audio signals that you resort.

To clarify that H.265/HEVC is not just for television. It is also used for different devices and platforms, such as smartphones, tablets, computers, camcorder, online transmission services and Blu-ray discs.

What does this standard with 4K have to do?

Imagine that 4k is an elephant and H.265 is a Suitase. The problem is obvious: an elephant does not fit. But with H.265, that elephant is “compressed” and gets into a sewing lament, maintaining its real size when it takes it out.

What does this standard with 4K have to do?

In order for television to sacrifice high quality images such as 4K, two importing things are needed: A system that can transmit a lot of information about the air and an efficient way to compress so that they do not occupy too much space. This is where DVB-T2 and H.265/Hevc come into play.

DVB-T2 is the standard that improves the way the TV signal is prayer. Think about it as a wider and faster road where TV data travels. Thanks to this improved road, much more information can be sent with saturating the frequencies used by the antennas.

On the other hand, H.265/HEVC is responsible for compressing the videos. When these two technologies together, the TV can transmit 4K sewing images. The chains compress the video with H.265 and then send it with DVB-T2. Its antenna collects that signal, and its television, if it is compatible, decodes it to show the image in high definition.

In summary, DVB-T2 is the ‘how’ the signal is transmitted, and H.265 is the ‘what is transmitted (ultra tablets). Without both, 4K in DTT would be impossible.

What do you need to see H.265/Hevc in DTT?

  • A compatible TV: Not all televisions support this standard. If your TV is old, you may have to buy a new one that admits this codec.
  • An external (optional) box: if your TV does not support H.265/HEVC, you can buy an external established box that connects to your TV and can decode the signal.
  • A good antenna: to receive the DTT signal in 4K, you need an antenna that is able to collect the signal correctly.
  • A decent connection: while H.265/HEVC is more efficient, 4K content transmission still requires considerable bandwidth. Be sure to have a fast and stable Internet connection if you are going to see 4K content through transmission services.
