Since 2017, the Fast Forward division of Vespa Piaggio has been exploring a unique way of reducing car trips: building robots that can follow you and carry your things. We called his original gita robot (pronounced “Jee-Tah”, Italian for “trip”) as an attractive rolling goalkeeper, but its initial size and price of $ 3,250 made it more a robbery-corner than something that the activity wants to buy. The company followed it with Gitamini, a more 1,850 narrow and slightly cheaper model, but even that is still a niche.
Most people simply do not have thousands of dollars to spend on a nice tracking, but the calculation can be different for Star Wars fans. Ask yourself a little, and Piaggio devices are not so different from BB-8, R2-D2 and the multicin of other droids. Therefore, it is not a big surprise to see Piaggio Fast Forward debut a special Star Wars Edition robot: the G1T4-M1N1. Basically it is only a version of $ 2,875 of the gitamini (which is now sold for $ 2,475) with Star Wars decals and sound effects.
G1T4-M1N1 has all the same specifications as the gitamini: up to 20 pounds is channeled in its upper compartment; Lasts 7 hours, or 24 miles; and his speed exceeds a cheerful 6 mph. But as a true Drug of Star Wars, he is more talkative than his older brother. Lucasfilm offered some of its unique sound effects for the bot, so it is possible that it sounds nervous, since it rushes to reach it, or gimneras quickly around a corner. It is a great jump beyond the BB8 toy with 2015 spher.
I had the opportunity to spend a weekend with G1T4-M1N1 in my house, but unfortunately I could not take it outside or use it in public, where it is really to shine. Instead, I was stuck in my house and deck. While that delighted my children, who both jumped in the air at the time when G1T4-M1N1 woke up with a strong boot sound, it was still frustrated that they could not stack their toys in their compartment and walk it towards neighbor Hood Park.
From the time of my letter with him, I can confirm that G1T4-M1N1 followed me as an anxious drug, ready to carry what I needed. But he also had some problems navigating around my messy floors: if he hit any important obstacle or corner, I would go on the waiting way until I recorded the capacitive button in its noggin. Unlike my sheapposter, it does not go back and tries again. I also had to be very careful with the G1T4-M1N1 around the staircase of my cover, since I continually tried to fall to his death like a robotic lemming.
According to the CEO and co -founder of Piaggio Fast forward, Greg Lynn, the company expects Bot owners to be careful with the main drops of “cliff” as stairs. Gitamini and Gita have the ability to stop before jumping on large drops of sidewalk, he says, but I couldn’t see that in action.
Among his problems with the stairs and the avoidance of obstacles, he could never imagine using any indoor robot indoors without headaches. But I could see that it was useful if I still lived in Brooklyn, where could I accompany my children and me to the park while dragging his team? (My back pain safe would appreciate it, anyway). I could also see the parking lot outside a local grocery store and keep home later.
Only in that dream scenario, he thought, I would worry that some try to steal the G1T4-M1N1. While it can block it from an application, which closes the storage compartment and extinguish any following capacity, you must still remember to make that manual. According to Lynn, he has seen curious strangers that accidentally allow the following characteristic of the gita bots more than he meets with potential robbery stories. Even so, the concern is there, especially since the G1T4-M1N1 and Gitamini weigh 28 pounds. It is not difficult to imagine that some intrepid thief leads to a G1T4-M1N1 parked and throwing it into his car. (Unfortunately, there is also no way to chain it physically as a bicycle).
I am not doing any final judgment at the G1T4-M1N1, or his brothers, since he could try it with Copact. But it is clearly not bad for everyone, not at that price, and not with the navigation problems I found. But I could see a future in which assistance robots like these could be useful. We currently have robots that offer food in the streets of some cities, and I have seen them helping waiters to move food for local restaurants. At some point, we will see cheaper and more useful home bots beyond Ramma and it is Ilk. And whatever comes next, probably a debt with the land that is stepping on the large gita wheels.
